North Hertfordshire District Council offers a number of services for people with disabilities.
Careline is a Community Alarm Service providing an invaluable source of help from which many people can benefit. For example, younger people with long term health needs including allergies and asthma, those with disabilities and restricted mobility and those who are threatened by domestic violence, harassment or repeated burglary.
Leisure Direct provides sport and leisure activities for adults with learning disabilities and/or mental health problems in North Hertfordshire.
Disability Equipment and Adaptations A wide range of equipment is available to help disabled people with tasks such as bathing, going to the toilet, cooking, and other aspects of daily living - and there are various organisations which provide or lend such equipment.
Disabled people may also benefit from minor or major adaptations to their home to make it accessible and suitable for their needs.
Attendance allowance is a tax-free benefit for people aged 65 or over who have a mental or physical illness or disability. If you are under 65 you should clai m disability living allowance instead
