District Wide Survey

What is a District Wide Survey?

  • The District Wide Survey is a consultation exercise that takes place every two years
  • The survey consists of approximately 1000 residents from across the North Herts area
  • Residents are consulted via a face to face interview in the residents home
  • Interviews carried out by professional consultants and not council staff
  • The survey is carried out to measure people's satisfaction with the Council and its services

The North Herts District Wide Survey

The District Wide Survey was first carried out in 2000 and subsequently in 2002, 2004 and 2006.  The District Wide Survey is the most important consultation tool used at North Hertfordshire District Council and supports the service and financial planning process.  The results from the District Wide Survey help to determine the service priorities and the priorities for Letchworth, Baldock, Hitchin, Royston and the Southern Rural areas.  Through this consultation exercise we are able to listen to and respond to residents needs and expectations.

Key findings and action plans

Feedback and action planning is an aspect of the consultation exercise which is often overlooked.    At North Hertfordshire District Council the production of both a report detailing the key findings from the consultation and a action plan against those findings is standard practice.  These are made available to residents via the NHDC Internet site and are included within the Consultation updates pages.  Within the Consultation updates pages you will find the report and the action plan from the latest District Wide Survey..

2008 District Wide Survey
During July and August 2008, Bostock Marketing Group (BMG Research) will be carrying out the latest District Wide Survey on behalf of North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC).  During this time BMG will be carrying out 1000, 20 minute interviews with residents in their homes on a number of issues.  Issues covered in the interviews include usage and satisfaction with council services, satisfaction with the council running of the district, satisfaction with the waste and recycling service and much more.  As the name suggests, this is a district wide exercise and interviews will be carried out in our four main towns as well as the rural villages.  The council would appreciate your support if you are approached to take part in the District Wide Survey.  All field staff from BMG will wear name badges and before being interviewed you will be shown a letter of authorisation from NHDC's Chief Executive, John Campbell.  If you have any questions about the District Wide Survey please contact Ashley Hawkins, Consultation Officer at NHDC on 01462 474210 or the BMG Survey Helpline on 0800 358 0337.  The principle contact at BMG for this consultation exercise is Linda Balodis.
