Annual Canvass 2010

The council has a duty to undertake a canvass of all households, within the authority area, between August and November every year.

From the information given the Electoral Registration Officer will produce a Register of Electors. This is a list of all those who are entitled to vote at elections in the forthcoming year.

On Monday 23 August 2010 over 55,000 forms will be posted to households within the area. Residents are asked to check the details on the green and white form. If the details shown are correct you can confirm using the freephone, internet or SMS service, the form does not need to be returned to us but may be kept for your records. If the details shown are incorrect, cross through any incorrect details and enter the details of those resident within the property who are eligible to register. Return the form to us in the envelope provided.

The forms, which ensure those entitled to vote are registered to do so, have to be completed by law.

To be included on the annual canvass form you must be:

  • Resident within the District on 15th October 2010
  • 18 years of age or over or reach 18 within the following 12 months. The register runs from 1 December 2010 to 30 November 2011
  • Be a British, Commonwealth, Irish or European Union citizen

The revised Register of Electors will be published on 1 December 2010. This is a public document and open for inspection, at Council Offices, Gernon Road, Letchworth Garden City, for you to check the details held.

Remember: to vote in local ,national elections and any referendums your name must be on the register of electors

It is also important to note that Credit Referencing Agencies will use the Register of Electors to confirm residency should you wish to apply for any form of credit.
