Local Code of Corporate Governance
In 1992 NHDC adopted a Local Code of Corporate Governance.
In July 2007 CIPFA/SOLACE published a new guidance note “Delivering Good Governance In Local Government”. This proposed a revised corporate governance framework and recommended best practice for developing and maintaining a local code of governance and making adopted practices open and explicit. This best practice guidance has been used to produce the attached revised Local Code of Corporate Governance which was reviewed by the Audit & Risk Panel and presented to PARC in January 2008.
Now that a revised Local Code has been adopted, the Corporate Governance Group will oversee the following:
The extent to which we comply with the principles and requirements of the Code
- Identification of systems, processes and documentation that provide evidence of compliance
- Identification of the individuals and committees responsible for monitoring and reviewing the systems, processes and documentation identified
- Identification of the issues that have not been addressed adequately in the Council and how they should be addressed.
- Identification of the individuals who would be responsible for undertaking the actions required and plan accordingly
The Local Code of Corporate Governance will underpin the Annual Governance Statement which will be published with our Statement of Accounts from 2007/08.
