Digital TV switchover

Digital TV switchover is coming to North Hertfordshire in 2011-12 and will affect everyone living, working and studying here. The majority of North Herts residents will be switched to digital services in March and April 2011 as part of the Anglia region switchover. The remainder of residents will have their services switched in 2012 as part of the London switchover.

Switchover requires every TV set that viewers want to keep watching to be converted or upgraded to digital, because the old analogue system will be switched off.

Drop In Events

If you would like some help with the digital switchover, come along to a drop-in event where Digital UK representatives will be on hand to answer your questions.

The events are taking place between 10am and 4pm at the Council Offices, Gernon Road, Letchworth, SG6 3JF on:

  • Wednesday 30 March
  • Thursday 31 March
  • Wednesday 13 April
  • Thursday 14 April

Do I need to do anything?

If you are not yet receiving digital TV, then yes, you will need to make the switch.

Many residents have already converted at least one of their television sets to digital and are already enjoying the benefits – extra TV channels as standard, subscription channels, better quality pictures, on-screen listings and interactivity, plus access to services such as audio description and subtitling.

Most people will be able to convert to digital themselves, with the support of information and advice available from Digital UK This link opens in a new browser window, the not-for-profit company responsible for leading switchover. There are a number of options available and it need not be expensive.

Extra practical help with converting to digital is available for older and disabled people who need it – if you are eligible, you will be contacted by post by the Switchover Help Scheme This link opens in a new browser window. You must respond in order to get the help.
