Staff Volunteers and Training

Staff Volunteers

In addition to officers who may be involved in the Council's response to an incident as part of their normal job the Council also has a team of staff volunteers who have volunteered to help in an incident, for example by staffing a Reception Centre, helping in the Incident Control Centre or supporting officers at the scene.

Staff volunteers are used in the following roles:

  • Silver / Site Liaison Officers
  • Reception Centre Managers
  • Reception Centre Staff
  • Emergency Support Staff

Training

Training forms a large part of our preparation for responding to emergencies. We undertake live and tabletop exercises, day and part day courses designed to cover all our main roles and responsibilities.  General and role specific in-house training is provided for staff and volunteers during the year by the Hertfordshire County Council Emergency Planning Unit, training is also offered to North Hertfordshire District, Parish and Town Councillors. Training is provided for key staff through residential courses at the Home Office College known as Easingwold. We invite representatives from our neighbouring authorities to join our training sessions to promote cross border liaison and knowledge.

Courses for staff volunteers include:

  • Trauma training
  • Reception Centre Training
  • Silver Liaison Officer Training
  • Introduction to Emergency Planning
  • CBRN Awareness Training
  • Introduction to Business Continuity Planning
  • Tabletop testing of NHDC Business Continuity Plans
