Preparing for Emergencies

The Government has distributed to every household a booklet called ‘Preparing for Emergencies’ This link opens in a new browser window which describes the action individuals should take if they become involved in a major incident.

The booklet has not been produced as a result of any particular threat but is intended to provide practical help and advice for individuals, families and communities. It describes advice for members of the public on how to prepare for a variety of emergencies e.g. fire safety, severe weather, transport accidents, animal and plant diseases and provides access to advice for businesses on emergency preparedness and response. It also explains how the public will be advised of what action to take in the event of an emergency occurring.

Go in, Stay in, Tune in

Advice given to the public on the Preparing for Emergencies This link opens in a new browser window website includes ‘Go in, Stay in, Tune in’.

If there is a major emergency radio and TV companies will give public safety advice and information on the incident.

ICE (In Case of Emergency)

With the increasing use of mobile phones and the improvements to the facilities offered on these phones, the East Anglian Ambulance NHS Trust launched a campaign to encourage members of the public to store emergency contact details in their phones under the acronym “ICE” (In Case of Emergency). More than one contact can be added by numbering each contact e.g. ICE 1.
