Taxi Licence Plates and Badges

Hackney Carriage Driver Badge
A driver licensed to operate in a hackney carriage will be issued with this badge which should be displayed at all times. The badge provides a photograph of the driver and their name, their licence number and the zone they are licensed to operate in, and the expiry date of their licence. Please check that;

• the photograph on the badge matches the driver of the vehicle.
• the badge is still valid.
• that you are in a licensed hackney carriage vehicle with the appropriate vehicle plate displayed on the rear.

Private Hire Driver Badge
A driver licensed to operate in a private hire vehicle will be issued with this badge which should be displayed at all times. The badge provides a photograph of the driver and their name, their licence number and the expiry date of their licence. Please check that;

• the photograph on the badge matches the driver of the vehicle.
• the badge is still valid.
• that you are in a licensed private hire vehicle vehicle with the appropriate vehicle plate displayed on the rear.

Hackney Carriage & Private Hire Driver Badge
A driver licensed to operate in either a hackney carriage or private hire vehicle will be issued with this badge which should be displayed at all times. The badge provides a photograph of the driver and their name, their licence number and the zone they are licensed to operate in, and the expiry date of their licence. Please check that;

• the photograph on the badge matches the driver of the vehicle.
• the badge is still valid.
• that you are in a licensed hackney carriage or private hire vehicle with the appropriate vehicle plate displayed on the rear.

Hackney Carriage Vehicle Plate
A vehicle licensed to operate as a hackney carriage will be issued with this plate which should be displayed at all times on the rear of the vehicle. The plate provides the vehicle registration number and a description of the vehicle, the licence number and the zone it is licensed to operate in, the maximum number of passengers it is licensed to carry, and the expiry date of the licence. Please check that;

• the vehicle registration number and description matches the vehicle.
• the plate is still valid.
• the driver is displaying a valid hackney carriage drivers badge.

Private Hire Vehicle Plate
A vehicle licensed to operate as a private hire vehicle will be issued with this plate which should be displayed at all times on the rear of the vehicle. The plate provides the vehicle registration number and a description of the vehicle, the licence number, the maximum number of passengers it is licensed to carry, and the expiry date of the licence. Please check that;

• the vehicle registration number and description matches the vehicle.
• the plate is still valid.
• the driver is displaying a valid private hire drivers badge.
