Churchgate Liaison Forum

What is the Churchgate Liaison Forum?

The Churchgate Liaison Forum (CLF) is a public forum which allows for communication to occur between local residents, businesses and the developer. This is based on similar successful forums which have been created for developments in other towns. The Forum has no decision making powers but is a useful avenue for the developer to test ideas, helping to shape the project, and most importantly communicate effectively with the town. A Constitution and Terms of Reference for the Forum has been agreed.

Membership of the CLF will be reviewed at key stages of the Churchgate Development Project, namely after the submission of any planning application and again prior to work commencing on site.

The CLF is to comprise up to three representatives from each of:

  • local residents associations/amenity societies:
    • Hitchin Historical Society
    • Hitchin Society
    • Hitchin Forum
  • local business associations
    • Hitchin Town centre Initiative
    • Hitchin Chamber of Commerce
    • Hitchin Markets Ltd
  • North Hertfordshire District Council
  • The developer
  • A representative of NHDC's Southern Rural Committee

Council officers will also be present at these meetings and will ensure that matters discussed are referred back to the Churchgate Project Board. The Churchgate Project Board comprising members and officers has been set up to act on behalf of the Council to deliver the Churchgate Project. The Board is authorised to make decisions on behalf of the Council referring to Cabinet and/or Full Council if necessary.

Format of meetings

The CLF meetings include a formal meeting and a public discussion forum.

The CLF is a meeting in public to which all individuals including local businesses, residents, young people, organisations and landowners are welcome to come along to participate in the public discussion forum and then listen to the debate/discussion during the more formal session.
