Community Centres and Facilities
There are several different varieties of community centres across North Hertfordshire. A number of urban halls operated by the District Council are available for hire in Hitchin, Letchworth and Baldock.
The villages have village halls offering a wide range of facilities and capacities, reflecting the nature of the communities which they serve. The success of the 2004 Village Halls Handbook has led us to update it and make it available on this site.
The District Council has helped many village halls over the past few years through grant funding for both capital and revenue projects. This has enabled several halls to achieve upgrades, through using NHDC grant funds to build or to attract other external funding.
NHDC has recently completed a condition survey of all forty three Community Centres and Village Halls in the District, performed as part of the Council’s plans to publish a strategy for Community Halls within North Hertfordshire.
The survey involved site inspections by a qualified architect to assess the current condition of the buildings and provide details of areas where it was considered that safety and / or structural modifications are required. The exercise also included the establishment of cost estimates to bring about those modifications, and a ranking on the level of urgency for these to be undertaken.
The management committees of all buildings surveyed are being provided with a report on the their facility, which provides details of issues noted and estimated costs for their rectification.
If you would like any further information regarding the survey please contact Peter Underwood, Community Facilities Manager, North Hertfordshire District Council on 01462 474669, email peter.underwood@north-herts.gov.uk
Hiring a community centre or village hall
North Hertfordshire District Council does not run any village halls or community centres: they are all run by independent management committees, parish councils or parish meetings. These pages are provided simply to sign-post potential users to the appropriate contacts.
If you're looking for a venue for a specific event, you may find it helpful to look through the venues sorted by seating capacity.
