Village Halls
Welcome to the second edition of the Village Halls Handbook from North Hertfordshire District Council.
The handbook, which was first published in 2004, has proved to be a great success. It provides detailed information on the location of all the village halls and the facilities that each has to offer, and has been compiled with the help of your Village Hall Committees.
Your community centres and village halls are a valuable local resource, and the Council is keen to encourage the use of these facilities. There are thirty-four village halls located across the district providing a range of leisure, education, and entertainment activities to residents of all ages and cultural backgrounds. In support of these and other rural community facilities, the Council has awarded more than £900.000 in grants for capital works projects over the last four years.
These halls also act as local political centres, holding elections, parish meetings and community surgeries, and are available for hire, ensuring their sustainability through income generation.
North Hertfordshire District Council is committed to the promotion of healthy living and is also working to reduce social exclusion. The District’s community centres and halls play a significant part in achieving these aims. The multi-functional nature of these facilities can, and do, cater for the diverse need of the different age, community and faith groups within North Hertfordshire.
The new edition of the handbook is available in soft copy only from the Councils Website, as a web-only version is far easier to keep updated. Where possible we have created links from our Village Hall page to the Hall’s own website. This will enable the reader to find a more detailed account of what specific facilities have to offer. We have also included a link to the Village Halls Advisor at the Community Development Agency, who can provide a wide range of information and guidance for village hall management committees and others interested in the operation of such facilities and the role that village halls play in serving the districts rural community.
I am delighted to introduce you to this revised, comprehensive guide to the community facilities available from the village halls across North Hertfordshire, and hope that you find it useful.
