North Hertfordshire Community Safety Partnership (NHCSP)
Working together to keep North Herts a safe place to live, work and prosper
The North Herts Community Safety Partnership (NH CSP) comprises of organisations who work together to reduce crime and disorder in North Hertfordshire. The Crime and Disorder Act, 1998 made it a statutory requirement for a number of public sector organisations to work together to tackle crime and disorder and anti-social behaviour. The ‘Responsible Authorities’ of NH CSP are; North Herts District Council, Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire Probation Trust, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Hertfordshire County Council and NHS Hertfordshire.
The NHCSP structure consists of strategic, tactical and local working groups, all working together to address local priorities.
The Responsible Authorities Group (RAG)
This is the strategic steering group and is attended by senior representatives from each Responsible Authority. The RAG sets the strategic direction of the NH CSP and monitors performance with regards to crime and disorder and community safety issues in North Herts. It is responsible for producing the annual Strategic Assessment and Community Safety Action Plan in line with statutory requirements.
The Joint Action Group (JAG)
This is the tactical operational arm of the NH CSP and works collectively to address crime and disorder and community safety issues that require a multi-agency response. The group includes representation from a wide range of stakeholders including Council, Police, Fire & Rescue and Registered Social Landlords. The JAG is responsible for the delivery of the Community Safety Action Plan.
The NH CSP also has a number of other multi-agency groups to address and tackle community safety and crime and disorder issues. These include; the Anti-Social Behaviour Task Group, the Community Reassurance Events Planning Group and the Communications Group.
Annual Strategic Assessment
The aim of the NH CSP annual Strategic Assessment is to identify both current crime and disorder issues within the district and also to describe emergent trends in order to inform the annual revision of the Community Safety Action Plan. Its purpose is to ensure that the NH CSP has a detailed understanding of all current crime and disorder related issues across the district so that it can make informed decisions and deliver joined up problem solving activities in line with these identified priorities.
The key findings from this years annual strategic assessment is that overall reported crime in North Hertfordshire has reduced compared to last year with no areas in the district experiencing severe or longstanding crime and disorder problems. NH CSP is a high performing Community Safety Partnership and North Hertfordshire remains a low crime area with one of the lowest crime figures in Hertfordshire.
Community Safety Plan
The Community Safety Action Plan is an annual partnership plan which includes activities that address the strategic priorities identified in the Annual Strategic Assessment. The plan identifies projects and resources to address priority areas such as crime trends and public perceptions regarding fear of crime. It is delivered through the JAG and performance is monitored by the RAG on a quarterly basis.
