The North Hertfordshire Community Safety Partnership works together using their legislative powers, sharing intelligence, expertise and resources to identify emerging issues within the community, and then take action to combat crime and disorder using an agreed problem solving methodology. The partnership is committed towards achieving a community which is a safe place to live, work and prosper.
Consultation on North Herts Community Safety Partnership’s Proposed Strategic Priorities for the District - 2012/13
The North Herts Community Safety Partnership’s annual Strategic Assessment identifies both issues and trends in crime and disorder. Its aim is to provide the Community Safety Partnership with an understanding of crime and disorder issues in the district, to inform strategic priorities and develop the annual Community Safety Action Plan.
The key findings from the annual Strategic Assessment is that overall reported crime in North Hertfordshire has reduced compared to last year with no areas in the district experiencing severe or longstanding crime and disorder problems. North Hertfordshire remains a low crime area and has one of the lowest crime figures in Hertfordshire making it one of the highest performing Community Safety Partnership’s in the county. The key to this success has been the Community Safety Partnership’s two-tiered preventative and proactive focus in tackling crime and disorder issues quickly and effectively.
The Findings
There have been significant reductions in the majority of recorded crime offences including; alcohol related crime, anti social behaviour, criminal damage, domestic burglaries, hate crime, robbery, shoplifting, vehicle crime and violent crime.
There have been slight increases in recorded domestic violence offences and business property burglaries.
The Priorities
In light of these findings, it is proposed that the North Herts Community Safety Partnership considers the following priorities in the development of its Community Safety Action Plan for 2012-13:
- Domestic Violence: To raise awareness of domestic abuse and to support domestic violence service providers
- Burglary Other: To encourage businesses to increase security and reduce opportunities for theft
- Anti-Social Behaviour, Criminal Damage and Deliberate Fires: To proactively deal with anti social behaviour, criminal damage and deliberate fires effectively across the district *
- Reassurance and confidence: To increase feelings of safety and promote reassurance**
* Whilst anti-social behaviour levels have significantly reduced, the Community Safety Partnership recognises that by dealing with low level crime and disorder incidents early there is a greater opportunity to reduce the risk of these problems escalating into more serious crimes.
** The Community Safety Partnership also recognises that improving residents’ confidence and perception levels in how it deals effectively with crime and disorder is important.
The NHCSP structure consists of strategic, tactical and local working groups, all working together to address local priorities.

Most problems can be solved at a local level, however on some occasions more senior partnership involvement is required. The NHCSP structure allows for more difficult issues, requiring a higher level of intervention to be escalated.
