Polling stations

A Polling station is located within a Polling Place. There may be more than one Polling Station in a Polling Place. A Polling Station is where you cast your vote during an Election. In the North Hertfordshire District area this may be a School, Village Hall, Farm Office and even a Garden Centre!

It is a duty of the Returning Officer to decide which buildings are designated as Polling Places. This is reviewed every 4 years to assess the suitability of the facility for the voter. Such issues as access and location are considered, making sure that, as far as practicable, the polling station is accessible and geographically convenient to the voters who will vote there. Shortly before an election you will receive a "Poll Card" giving the address of the polling station you should attend.

At each Polling Station there will be a Presiding Officer and a Polling Clerk who will issue ballot papers and check the eligibility of voters when they come to the station against the Electoral Register.
