Traders Information

It is a requirement of law that all Markets selling new products/produce must have Public Liability Insurance. No trading will be allowed to commence until proof of such is presented to a Market Officer.

We follow guide lines set down to control how many of certain commodities we allow on our markets at any given time. This ensures that we do not flood the markets with commodities of the same type, and will not encourage monopolies.

Although we do not ‘book’ stalls, Traders are encouraged to contact the office before attempting to trade. In our experience this prevents disappointment and the loss of a days trading if we cannot accommodate for any reason. New traders will however, be accommodated if it is practical to place them.

When first attending any of our markets you will be treated as a ‘Casual trader’ this means that you are free to come and go as you please, if you do not attend, you do not pay. The down side is that although we strive to keep you in the same location, we reserve the right to move you about the Market as the need arises. And you may turn up one morning to find your pitch taken and your commodity represented by another.

After a minimum period of 4 weeks you will be asked if you wish to become a ‘Licensed trader’. Licensed traders are allowed 4 holidays per year pro rata, of which you will pay 25% of the stall rent as a retainer.

The pitch is yours for as long as you wish to trade with us. We ask 1 months notice should you wish to cease trading.

We offer a sign making service and have plastic carrier bags for sale.

Hitchin Market

The stalls are permanently fixed, although there are very limited own stall pitches available if preferred.

Stalls vary in size starting from 8’ up to 14’ frontage, with or without boards.

In busy periods we advise Traders to bring there own boards to increase the chance of them getting a stall as those with boards tend to go first.

Once you are an established trader you may stall out as early as you wish but all vans must be removed from the market by the stated time.

Parking is provided at a subsidised rate.
