| Local Plan | The Local Plan contains many of the policies used in determining planning applications in North Hertfordshire. |
| Local Development Scheme | The Local Development Scheme sets out the timetable for preparing new planning policy documents. |
| Core Strategy | The Core Strategy will be the main document in the new planning policies, setting new levels of growth and containing policies for managing development. |
| Land Allocations | The Land Allocations document will identify specific pieces of land to meet identified needs for development and growth. |
| Stevenage and North Hertfordshire Action Plan | SNAP was to guide urban extensions on the edge of Stevenage. Work on it is currently suspended and unlikely to restart soon. |
| Supplementary Planning Documents | SPD are documents which support the Local Plan and Core Strategy, covering specific subjects such as parking and financial contributions. |
| Supplementary Planning Guidance | SPG was the term used before 2004/5 for what are now SPD (see above). Those SPG still in force can be found here. |
| Monitoring | Monitoring reports covering housing, employment, retail development and other changes are produced regularly. |
| Statement of Community Involvement | The SCI sets out how the community can get involved in influencing new planning policies and in determining planning applications. |
| Evidence Base | Our evidence base is all the reports and background papers we take into account in writing new planning policies. |
| Town Centre Strategies | Each of the four town centres of North Hertfordshire has a strategy guiding how we would like it to develop. |
| Site-specific Briefs and Projects | These may be development briefs on how we want a site developed, or enhancement projects where the Council is looking to make changes to an area. |
