Hitchin Post Office
The Hitchin Town Centre Strategy says that a development brief will be prepared for the Hitchin Post Office site, being the delivery office situated between Hermitage Road and Portmill Lane in Hitchin. This development brief is to be prepared in partnership with prospective developers for the site. To date, no such developers have come forward. However in October 2011 Royal Mail Group put the site on the market, making it more likely that prospective developers may now come forward.
To assist anyone considering bidding for the site, the Council has put together a short paper highlighting a number of existing policies and documents which already give guidance on the Council's intentions for the site. This paper is not policy in its own right and is described as a scoping paper, identifying the main policies and subjects which need to be covered when the full development brief is prepared. When the development brief is prepared, it would be subject to public consultation and adoption by the Council. Given that no prospective developers have yet come forward, we cannot give a timetable for when the full development brief will be prepared.
