Hitchin Town Centre Strategy

Hitchin Town Centre Strategy was the first strategy to be produced and was adopted by Full Council on 18th November 2004 as the Council's Statement of Policy. The Strategy lays the foundations for future growth and development in Hitchin town centre. It has been prepared after extensive consultation, providing a comprehensive overview of the town centre while recognising its historic character, local distinctiveness and the needs of its local community.

It comprises an overall vision with aims and policy guidance. The Strategy looks forward to 2016 (and possibly beyond). Like all strategies, it should be viewed not as a fixed plan, but as a continuing process. It should inform other plans, strategies and service plans, and in turn be informed and updated by them.

The Strategy identifies a number of  key development sites and enhancement areas/opportunities, and refers to the preparation of a number of Planning Briefs including:
