Food Waste
Only 22% of the food we throw away in North Herts is being composted via the brown bin. Although you can place ALL food, cooked or raw into the brown bin the average contents of a grey bin in North Herts is made up of a third food waste. This is around 7000 tonnes – costing approximately £500,000 every year to landfill! NHDC’s Waste and Recycling team’s campaign for 2011/12 is tackling the growing financial and environmental costs of food waste by helping residents to reduce and recycle their food.
