Compost Awareness Week 2012
To raise awareness about home composting and make your garden more sustainable we will be giving away FREE compost* at the following locations:
- Friday 11 May - Old Market Square, Hitchin (10am - 3pm)
- Saturday 12 May - Leys Square, Letchworth (10am - 3pm)
*Please note that you must bring your own container to take the compost.
We will be on hand to advise on home composting
, buying subsidised compost bins through WasteAware
, recycling food in your brown bin
and any other general waste and recycling queries.
Letchworth Food and Garden Festival 2012
Come and learn about how to make the most of your food and save money at the Letchworth Food and Garden Festival
on 19 and 20 May! The Waste Team will be on hand to give tips, advice and recipes that will help you enjoy your food for longer.
Bored of making the usual bubble and squeak with your leftovers? There will be chefs on hand both days providing expert demonstrations of how to use your leftovers, including Richard Fox who was part of our hugely successful 'Love Food, Hate Waste' cookery demonstrations last year.
Letchworth Streetfest
Come down to the annual Letchworth Streetfest
on 9 June where the Waste Team will be showcasing our black box cinema
- a 15 minute interactive cinema experience!
Recycle Week 2012
In support of Recycle Week 2012
the Waste Team will be out promoting waste and recycling and will be available to answer any waste and recycling queries at the following locations:
- Friday 22 June - Old Market Square, Hitchin (10am - 3pm)
- Saturday 23 June - Garden Square, Letchworth (10am - 3pm)
Knebworth Festival
The Waste Team will be available to answer your waste and recycling queries at the Knebworth Festival Village Fun Day
at the Recreation Ground on 30 June (between 1pm - 5pm).
Black Box Cinema
The second showing of our interactive cinema experience will be at Old Market Square, Hitchin on 4 August between 10am-4pm.
WEEE Takeback Events
Look out for details in the local press, Outlook magazine and on this webpage of when our next hugely popular WEEE
(waste electricals and electronic equipment) events are taking place.
The items we accept at these events are detailed below. Please note that these items can also be recycled at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre
:
- Kitchen items (e.g. kettles, toasters, microwaves, blenders, bread makers)
- General household items (e.g. lamps, vacuum cleaners, irons, alarm clocks, electric fans, battery chargers, electric or battery toys and charging devices)
- Audio/visual equipment (e.g. televisions, VCRs,DVD players, freeview boxes, radios, hi-fi's, games consoles, mobiles and MP3 players)
- Health and beauty items (e.g. hairdryers, straighteners, electric razors)
- IT equipment (e.g. computers, printers, scanners)
