Ceramics collection

The museums hold a varied ceramics collection dating from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries. The objects include tea sets, dinner services, vases and tiles. Many of these reflect everyday households through the ages, although some show a more luxurious lifestyle. Included in the collection are ceramics made by famous pottery manufacturers such as Royal Dolton, Wedgwood, Minton and Spode.

There are a number of intriguing items such as the frog mugs, moustache cups and invalid cups. There is also a commemorative mug showing the Letchworth Co-Op in 1925 and several pieces of Goss china that are based on archaeological pots from Letchworth Museum.

In addition, the collection contains three examples by Abdo Nagi (1941-2001). Abdo was a skilled ceramic artist born in Yemen who moved to Letchworth in 1967 and went on to become nationally known and exhibit worldwide.
