Baldock
Baldock’s historic central area, lined by Georgian and Victorian buildings, has recently been enhanced as part of a £3m improvement scheme financed by NHDC and Hertfordshire County Council. New pavements, road surfaces and grassed areas have been laid, and the south end of Church Street has been pedestrianised. The street furniture and street lighting have also been completely renewed. Once the first stop out of London for horse drawn coaches on the Great North Road, Baldock had many coaching inns and some of these remain today, converted to more modern uses. | ![]() |

One secondary school serves Baldock and the surrounding villages – The Knights Templar School. Knights Templar’s leisure centre is open to the public, while NHDC’s North Herts Leisure Centre is also not far away. |
Avenue Park
has a paddling pool, tennis courts and a bowling green.
Two special annual events provide highlights - the Baldock festival, which takes place over two weeks during May, and the fair which occupies the High Street and Whitehorse Street in the first weekend of October.
