What we do?
The Revenues and Benefits Service at North Hertfordshire District Council is responsible for the following functions:
- Administration and collection of Council Tax
- Administration and collection of Business Rates
- Administration and payment of Housing and Council Tax Benefit
- Detection and prevention of Benefit Fraud
- Recovery of all income to the Council
- Central Cash collection

- Due to collect £63.5M Council Tax in 2008/2009
- Due to collect £35.6M Business Rates in 2008/2009
- Due to pay out £26M in Housing Benefit in 2008/2009
- Due to pay out £7.9M in Council Tax Benefit in 2008/2009
- Due to collect £6M of Sundry Income in 2008/2009

Customer Advisory Panel
The Revenues and Benefits Service have a Customer Advisory Panel consisting of customers interested in helping us improve the service to customers. The Panel is consulted on matters such as content of literature, major procedural changes, the annual Service Business Plan, how we deal with customer complaints and any significant changes in legislation.
