What do we do?
The Revenues and Benefits Service at North Hertfordshire District Council is responsible for the following functions:
- Administration and collection of Council Tax
- Administration and collection of Business Rates
- Administration and payment of Housing and Council Tax Benefit
- Detection and prevention of Benefit Fraud
- Recovery of all income to the Council
- Central Cash collection

Some idea of the size of the Service
- 54,241 Council Tax properties at 1st April 2009, an increase of 2.09%
- 4,030 Business Rate properties at 1st April 2009, an increase of 0.40%
- 8,712 live Benefit Claims at 1st April 2009, an increase of 6.76%
- 6336 New successful Benefit Claims processed in 2008/2009, an increase of 32.69%
- 1690 New unsuccessful Benefit Claims processed in 2008/09, an increase of 110.99%
- 6401 Changes in Circumstances processed in 2008/2009
- 100,000 items of post each year
- Due to collect £66.1M Council Tax in 2009/2010, of which 74% is collected by Direct Debit.
- Due to collect £36.1M Business Rates in 2009/2010, of which 57.25% is collected by Direct Debit.
- Due to pay out £28.3M in Housing Benefit in 2009/2010, an increase of 8.46%
- Due to pay out £8.6M in Council Tax Benefit in 2009/2010, an increase of 8.86%
- Due to collect £6M of Sundry Income in 2009/2010
