Fixed Penalty Notices
North Hertfordshire District Council takes environmental crime very seriously. Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) are just one of the tools that can be used to tackle environmental crime. FPNs may be offered when the Council has evidence that an offence has been committed; and provide an alternative to prosecution and going to court. They may not be offered for every offence as a prosecution may be the more appropriate option.
Payment of a FPN means that no further action will be taken for that particular offence. If payment is made within 10 days then the fee will be set at a reduced amount. Failure to pay the full amount within the 14 days is likely to result in the matter being taken to magistrates court and prosecuted.
