Homelessness Advice
By law, the Council has a duty to provide people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness with advice and appropriate assistance. We will always seek to prevent homelessness wherever possible.
If you are homeless or worried about becoming homeless, you should contact us straight away to arrange an appointment to come in and see us.
The kind of assistance you are entitled to depends on your circumstances and how you became homeless. When you contact us, we will arrange an appointment for you to talk with a trained Housing Officer to determine what can be done to help you.
Everyone is entitled to housing advice from the Council, relating to any aspect of housing including the various housing options. This includes, for example, advice on your rights as a tenant or owner occupier, how to find your own accommodation, what to do if you are suffering from domestic violence and where to get advice about money or legal matters.
Please contact us by telephone on 01462 474000 or by e-mail at service@north-herts.gov.uk.
Useful Websites
Details of various organisations across Hertfordshire who can provide information and assistance with homelessness can be found on Hertfordshire County Council's website.
Shelter and the Citizens Advice Bureau also provide valuable information about homelessness and what to do if you are threatened with being homeless.
