Disabled Facilities Grants
Disabled Facilities Grants are available to owner/occupiers and tenants towards the cost of providing adaptations and facilities to assist older people and people with disabilities. It enables them to remain independent within their own home.
All grant applicants (excluding those for children) will be subject to a means test of the resources of the disabled person and their spouse or partners. The means test assesses how much if anything they must contribute to the cost of works.
The Council will consider applications for Disabled Facilities Grants for a range of works including:
- a) works to make it easier to get into and out of the dwelling
- b) providing suitable bathroom facilities
- c) improving access to bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room.
- d) to improve heating or lighting controls to make them easier to use.

At the same time if you feel you are eligible you should contact an Occupational Therapist at Adult Care Services or Children, Schools and Families on 01438 737400/737500 and request an assessment is carried out.
If your property is in a serious state of disrepair, lacking amenities or structurally unstable, Renovation Grant/Loans are available .
If your property is suffering from minor disrepair, requires additional security measures or insulation, Home Repair Assistance is available.
