Empty Properties

Empty properties can have a significant impact on the community in terms of nuisance, crime and environmental problems.  They also represent a wasted resource when housing demand in the district is high.  For this reason, we are striving to help bring empty properties back into use as housing.

The Council offers advice and assistance to owners, including possible grant funding.  We are also a contact point for those who are looking to purchase and/or develop an empty property and for those who are experiencing problems as a result of living near an empty property.  We will also consider enforcement action (via Empty Dwelling Management Orders) against owners of empty properties if necessary.
