Housing Services
North Hertfordshire District Council provides a range of housing services to its residents. As the strategic housing authority for North Hertfordshire, we have a duty to consider the housing needs of the district and ensure that these are met. The Housing Strategy sets out our plans for doing this.
In March 2003, the Council completed the transfer of all council housing to North Hertfordshire Homes who are now landlord to over 10,000 tenants. Although we are no longer a landlord, we continue to maintain the Common Housing Register for people who want to apply for affordable housing in the district. Further information about how to apply can be found on the ‘Applying to join the Common Housing Register’ page.
We offer free, comprehensive and confidential housing advice to all residents in North Herts about the various options that are available to them. This includes details of assistance for people with support needs such as older people, the young or those with learning difficulties for example. The Council also has a duty to prevent homelessness and to provide emergency accommodation where appropriate.
