Trade / Commercial waste collection
The Environmental Protection Act (EPA) 1990 defines Commercial / Trade Waste as 'Waste from premises used for a trade or business or for the purposes of sport, recreation or entertainment'.
North Hertfordshire District Council has a duty under the EPA to provide a collection of commercial waste if requested to do so. Under the Act, business owners have a duty of care to ensure that their trade waste is disposed of through appropriate routes and to maintain correct documentary evidence.
The Council operates the Trade Refuse Collection Service through its waste collection contractor, Veolia. This service is available to all companies, large or small, for the disposal of their trade waste on a contractual basis.
A commercial waste officer is available to visit your premises to discuss your requirements. The Officer will endeavour to tailor our service provision to suit your needs and ensure that it will be the most cost-effective way for you to manage your waste.
If you require a trade refuse service, further advice, or wish to enquire about current charges please contact freephone 0800 3286023.
Please note that this service is not available for the removal of hazardous or toxic waste (including asbestos). For information regarding the disposal of these materials please contact the WasteAware information line on 08457 425000.
