Sports Development
Our Sports Development Unit aims to develop sporting opportunities for children and young people at all levels.
The unit has been involved in a number of sporting events in North Hertfordshire, the Herts Youth Games, the Primary Schools District Sports Festivals, and assisting with the North Herts Community Sports Network. Our sports development unit provides secretarial support for Sport North Herts, a Community Sports Network representing statutory, private and community organisations dedicated to delivering and developing sport. For more information visit the Sport North Herts page.
We also organise holiday sports courses during February and Easter Half terms and the summer holidays, with well over 150 courses on offer to youngsters in North Herts throughout the year. For more information on upcoming out of school sport visit our Out of School Play and Sport page.

Hertfordshire Youth Games
The games is an annual competition based at the Hertfordshire Sports Village each May. There are approximately 20 different competitions running throughout the weekend. For further information view the Herts Youth Games website if you want to be involved in future years. This year North Herts won best boys, girls and overall District for the first time in the games' 14 year history.
Sports Grants for talented individuals and coaches
North Hertfordshire District Council provides £5000 per year to support talented individuals and coaches. For more information about how to apply for a grant visit the Sources of Grant Aid for Sport page. From April 2008 these grants are administered by Sport North Herts.
Coach Education
The Sports Development Officer is always looking for new qualified coaches to work on local programmes. Sports Development works in line with the recently developed Hertfordshire Coaching Strategy to help both existing and new coach’s gain the qualifications that they are looking for. Advice on National Governing Body (NGB) Awards and workshops are available from North Herts District Councils Sports Development Unit or the Hertfordshire Sport Partnership.
Club Development
The Sports Development Officer can provide advice on developing your club or establishing a new one. This can be in terms of coaching, funding, equipment etc. Clubs can also gain NGB accreditation. Examples of these are - Club Mark – Cricket, Seal of Approval – Rugby, Charter Standard – Football. Information on these accreditation’s can be gained by contacting the sports development unit, or by contacting the County Development Officer for your sports governing body.
Passport for Excellent
Our Passport for Excellence scheme gives talented international athletes (junior and senior) free use of leisure facilities in North Hertfordshire. For more information visit our Passport for Excellence page.
