Equalities and Diversity
As a Council we believe in openness and equality in all our dealings with our residents, partners and colleagues. This belief extends to how we provide services to members of our community - every individual is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect. Care for service users goes hand in hand with our care as an employer and this is reflected in our various service plans and human resources policies.
We recognise that some people in our community may experience discrimination, and we need to work together to tackle that to promote community cohesion. To endeavour to treat people equally does not necessarily mean to treat everyone the same - it is in working to identify that individual's needs to avoid potential or actual discrimination.
We aim to ensure that all groups and individuals within the community of North Herts are given full opportunity to benefit from the services and job opportunities we provide. No service user or potential service user, employee or potential employee will be discriminated against on any ground because of age, colour, disability, ethnic or national origins, race, gender, gender preference, marital status, political or religious beliefs, earnings, because they are a carer or take part in trade union activities.
As well as within our Corporate plan and our Corporate Strategic Objectives
The Council has attained Level 3 as of March 2005 (of Levels 1 to 5) of the Equality Standard for Local Government.
