Building Control

Introduction

The Building Regulations aim to protect the public from dangers of the built environment with Standards and Codes of Practice covering structure, fire safety, health and hygiene. With the ever-increasing threat of global warming and its subsequent effects, new moves are being made towards a more sustainable built environment.

We are committed to providing a safe and sustainable built environment for the residents and visitors of North Hertfordshire.

The Building Control Department is within the Financial and Regulatory Services Direcorate, operating under the leadership of the Building Control Manager. A busy team of qualified Building Control Surveyors, supported by a dedicated technical administrative group, ensures that a quality service is provided. The service is Quality Assured and regularly audited by the BSI.

Our Role

The main responsibility of Building Control is to ensure a safe and healthy built environment. This is achieved by:

  • Checking submitted plans, details and calculations for compliance with the Building Regulations 2000
  • Carry out regular site inspections of the work at the necessary and required stages of progression of work on site
