Land Allocations
Issues & Options Consultation
The first stage in preparing the Land Allocations document was open for public comment between 24 January and 19 March 2008. A follow-up consultation was held between 20 July and 14 September 2009 upon the additional sites which were suggested at that first consultation - see Land Allocations Additional Suggested Sites.
The original Issues & Options consultation documents from 2008 and accompanying Sustainability Appraisal / Strategic Environmental Assessment are available as pdf documents at the bottom of this page. There are also maps showing all the sites proposed in Baldock, Hitchin, Letchworth Garden City and Royston.
Background
The level of new housing the District is required to accommodate and number of new jobs we should try and generate are set by the East of England Plan which was published on 12 May 2008. The North Hertfordshire Core Strategy will give guidance on how such development will broadly be distributed, dealing with such matters as which villages will be considered appropriate for development or whether there should be greenfield growth around any towns or villages.
The final Land Allocations document will specify sites to meet the District's needs for housing, employment, retail, leisure, community facilities and any other uses considered necessary. At this first stage, more sites are identified than are likely to be required and the inclusion of sites in this document is not an indication that the Council will ultimately wish to see the site developed. The results of this consultation and any other evidence which emerges will be used to determine which sites are taken forward to the second, preferred options, stage.
