Royston Railway Crossing

In 2007, a public vote was held by the Big Lottery Fund: "The People's £50 million".  In this, North Hertfordshire District Council and Hertfordshire County Council teamed up with Sustrans, a national body campaigning for sustainable transport, to design a project to create a new railway crossing in Royston.

The Royston scheme was one of a package of 79 schemes UK-wide that were promoted under Sustrans’ Connect2 project.  In the public vote the Connect2 project was successful, meaning that approximately £700,000 of lottery money is now being made available towards the cost of providing a new railway crossing in Royston.

The Royston railway crossing project will provide a long overdue new railway subway crossing to the north east of the town.  It will address illegal and unsafe crossings of the railway and will provide access for pedestrians and cyclists from residential areas to schools, leisure centre and employment.
