Urban Design Assessment
An Urban Design Assessment has been undertaken of the four main towns and Knebworth, as the largest village. This study forms a background paper as part of the evidence base for the Council’s Local Development Framework. It will also support the production of development briefs and assist in the consideration of planning applications. The study has created an individual report for each settlement as well as a District Assessment which provides an overview of the findings.
Preparation
North Hertfordshire District Council appointed Urban Practitioners as its consultants in November 2006 to undertake an urban design assessment of the district's five largest settlements: Letchworth Garden City, Hitchin, Royston, Baldock and Knebworth.
As part of their initial work, the consultants ran a series of workshops in January 2007. Summaries of the outputs of these workshops are below. The results of these workshops informed the final documents above.
