Stay or Go
Depending on the circumstances and nature of the emergency, the first important decision is to either evacuate or shelter in place. Understanding and planning for both possibilities in advance is necessary within your Business Continuity Plan. Therefore, have both an evacuation plan and a shelter in place plan (invacuation plan).
You may receive some advice from the police, the fire service or even your Local Authority as to whether to stay in place or evacuate, but this may take a little time to happen. Monitoring TV and radio news broadcasts is a good method of finding out information and receiving official instructions. In the first instance, you may need to use common sense.
