Recovery

Business Continuity Planning is about preparing in advance to survive the impact of a critical incident or disruption to your business.  If this should happen, your initial response will be to deal with the incident as it appears but, consideration should be given as quickly as possible how your business will recover.  Many organisations immediately set up what is known as a ‘Business Recovery Team’.  This team will not be involved with the initial response but will look at the medium and long-term recovery issues for your organisation.

Role Of The Recovery Team

The group will meet as and when required to provide support and advice to the business management structure.  The group will be responsible for liasing with agencies, customers and suppliers and provide factual and focused advice and technical solutions to promote the recovery of the business.  At times, the group may be asked to lead the response to the recovery after the initial incident has been dealt with.  Depending on the size of the business, this group may consist of:

  • One or two members of staff for small organisations who are able to identify the recovery needs and cope with the volume of work required, or,
  • A much bigger team consisting of production directors, human resource directors, financial directors, public relations directors, etc.

Recovery Planning

By the pre-identification of this group, the opportunity exists for the group to regularly meet, develop and practice plans before a major incident occurs.  Staff that know what to do and when to do it will aid the recovery of your business.
