Hillshot car park to be closed for one week for improvement work
7 February 2012
Hillshot car park in Letchworth will be closed for refurbishment between February 13 to 17, as part of the programme to restore Howard Park.
North Herts District Council (NHDC) has timed the closure for half term as there are less people at work during school holidays.
The renovation of Howard Park is expected to be completed this spring. It will include a new paddling pool and toilets, improved play areas and a kiosk for refreshments.
The Park improvements are part of a £2.7million scheme which included the nearby Howard Gardens which were re-opened in November. The project was largely funded thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery’s Parks for People programme.
Cllr Tom Brindley, NHDC’s portfolio holder for Planning, Transport and Enterprise, said: “Closing Hillshot car park during half term is the quickest and most efficient way to complete the refurbishment work. When it reopens it will be much improved. While we understand this will cause some disruption, in the long run it will be to the benefit of all residents.
“Major work is already taking place at Letchworth multi-storey car park as part of the £1.4 million scheme to improve facilities in car parks for residents over the next three years.”
