Future stars given sporting chance
8 June 2012
Sporting stars of the future are being invited to apply for the latest round of grants allocated by Sport North Herts and North Herts District Council (NHDC).
Applications for the sport grants for talented young individuals and coaches are now open until Monday July 2. The grants are to help with the cost of sports equipment, clothing, fees for training, competitions or qualifications and travel.
The individual grants are for people up to the age of 19, or 23 for full time students and people with disabilities, who have lived in North Herts for the last 12 months or more and competed at a regional or national level. There is no age restriction on the grants for coaches
The grants have already helped a wide variety of athletes and coaches in sports as varied as cricket, badminton, pole vaulting, triathlon, rugby, boxing, tennis and swimming.
Cllr Tricia Cowley, NHDC Portfolio Holder for Community Development, said: “With a wealth of sporting talent in North Herts we want to help develop that as much as possible, and competing at a regional or national level can be an expensive business. Sport North Herts and the Council are pleased to be able to offer practical help through this grant scheme.”
