Electric vehicles

Charging points

Electric vehicle (EV) charging points are located at six locations within the district, five of which are available for public use. They were installed following a grant in 2013 from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).

The purpose in installing EV charging points in the district is to encourage the use of more sustainable forms of transport in line with our Climate Change Policy and Local Air Quality Management responsibilities.

Locations of charging points

Electric vehicle recharging parking bays for public use are in the following long stay car parks:

Each recharging point has the facility to recharge two EVs at the same time and so two side by side parking bays are designated for EV recharging at each car park.

How to register

If you would like to use these EV charging points, please register on the GeniePoint website. Any vehicle that is licensed with the DVLA as a pure electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle may join the scheme. This includes cars, vans, trucks, motorbikes and scooters.

Cost and restrictions

The fee for electricity consumed is £0.30 per kilowatt hour (which is below the market average). Parking in an EV charging bay is free up to a maximum stay of three hours, provided that the vehicle is on charge for the entire stay.

EVs parked in any other parking bay will need to show a valid pay-and-display parking ticket.
