Coronavirus: parking permits for key workers

This page is for NHS workers and NHS Volunteer Responders working during the pandemic. If you're a healthcare worker visiting clients living within a resident parking zone, you can apply for a Medical and Carer Parking Permit.

Permits for NHS staff and NHS volunteers

The coronavirus COVID-19 Parking Pass for NHS staff, health and social care workers and NHS volunteers was withdrawn on 21 June 2021 and is no longer valid for use in North Hertfordshire.

We wish to continue to support those working for the NHS for the service they are providing to our local community during the pandemic. To do this we are issuing permits to NHS workers and NHS Volunteer Responders to enable them to access parking concessions. The permit may only be used when travelling to work or travelling to carry out duties across the North Hertfordshire district in the following locations:

  • North Hertfordshire District Council operated long stay off-street car parks, which are:
  • On single yellow lines during the restricted hours, when visiting patients, if there is no alternative parking place available, with the exception of those where additional loading restrictions apply (look for kerb markings and loading restriction times shown on upright signs) or those that are within 10 metres of a junction.
  • Resident permit bays, when visiting patients.

If the permit is not displayed correctly a Penalty Charge Notice may be issued. Full guidance will be issued with the permit.

This permit only applies while you are travelling to carry out your duties as a care worker. It does not apply when parking at your normal place of residence.

When displaying the COVID-19 Temporary Parking Permit you are permitted to park in the following locations:

  • resident permit bays in the North Hertfordshire district

If the permit is not displayed correctly a Penalty Charge Notice may be issued. Full guidance will be issued with the permit.
