Environmental Action Day comes to Letchworth

PR Date: Wednesday, 11 December 2019 - 10:15am

Organisations from the North Herts Community Safety Partnership worked together to hold an Environmental Action Day at the Jackmans Estate in Letchworth on Monday 09 December.

The event was organised by North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC). It was supported by Hertfordshire Constabulary, Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, NLS Services (DVLA National contractor for untaxed vehicles), Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, John O’Conner and social housing landlord settle.

The aim of the day was to deal with issues relating to environmental crime and anti-social behaviour, as well as offering face-to-face advice to residents.

As a result of inspections being carried out on the day, four cars were clamped due to being untaxed, a fly-tip was cleared which included a large wooden wardrobe, a bag of needles used for drugs found and cleared, and residents also raised concerns around items being left in flat stairwells, which could be a potential fire risk.

Jeanette Thompson, NHDC’s Service Director – Legal and Community, said: "The Environmental Action Days are a great way to help address any early signs of crime and anti-social behaviour and prevent emerging issues from becoming more serious ones.

"Residents expressed support for a co-ordinated patrol of the estate and all the partners doing their bit to help improve the area."
