The role
The Council’s vision is for North Hertfordshire to be a vibrant place to live, work and prosper. The Environmental Health Service plays an important part in delivering this vision and protecting the quality of life of our residents.
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our busy Commercial Team who can make a difference to our communities in North Herts.
You will be responsible for carrying out a wide variety of work, gaining skills, knowledge and experience across several fields of environmental health such as private water supplies, food and public health in order to make a positive impact.
Your main role will be to carry out sampling of food and water from private water supplies. It will involve arranging and undertaking visits to residents and food businesses, using sampling equipment and liaising with laboratories to ensure samples are analysed within the right timescales. You will follow up on any samples that fail to meet the required standard and ensure that improvement works to private water supplies are completed.
The team will also need your assistance in the investigation of accidents, complaints and ensuring equipment is maintained.
You will need to be able to talk to people confidently and assertively as you seek to resolve any poor sampling results that you receive, and you will need good organisational skills to manage a heavy caseload.
You will receive training in all technical areas of the role. You must be committed to achieving additional qualifications commensurate with the role requirements as ongoing continuous professional development.
The experience you will bring
You do not need any experience in Environmental Health to apply for this position. We’re looking for people who are passionate about making a difference with an eagerness to learn and the transferable skills that will allow you to grow a successful career in Environmental Health.
You will have excellent spoken and written communication skills. You will need to deal with members of the public confidently and professionally and in situations which can often be difficult. Therefore, being able to maintain a professional composure will be key to your success. You will need to possess bundles of enthusiasm and self-motivation be happy to work on your own and as a team player.
