Help shape the future of your waste and recycling service

Residents in North and East Hertfordshire are being invited to take part in a survey to help shape the future of their waste and recycling services.

North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) and East Hertfordshire Council (EDC) are both working together on a new joint contract for waste and recycling services to reduce the cost of providing these services to residents. Before a new contract is awarded, both Councils are offering residents the opportunity to give their views on some of the options that are being considered.

One of the potential options includes introducing weekly collections of food waste alongside a chargeable garden waste service. Also on the table is whether to continue with a recycling service whereby one material e.g. glass or paper is collected separately, or to put all recycling in one bin.

Cllr Lynda Needham, Leader of NHDC said: "We know that the majority of residents feel that waste, recycling and street cleansing are the most important services that the Council provides. That’s why it’s really important that we seek your views now to help Councillors make a decision on which contract options to go for.

"As Councils are under severe financial pressure, there will clearly be some difficult decisions ahead, but both North and East Hertfordshire Councils are committed to continuing to provide a high quality waste, recycling and street cleansing service."

East Herts Council leader Linda Haysey said: "Waste collection and recycling are hugely important to residents in East and North Herts, which is why we are asking for their views on the future of these services.

"With the current contract coming to an end, we have a real opportunity to make a difference, and our residents have the chance to influence the decisions being made to ensure they get the right service for their needs, so I would encourage all residents in East and North Herts to take a few moments to complete this short survey."

The results will be used to help Councillors in both Councils to decide which contract options to go for. The joint contract is due to be awarded in October and will commence in May 2018.
