The Overview and Scrutiny Committee is entitled to review and scrutinise the decisions and functions of the Council and the Cabinet and make reports or recommendations on matters affecting the authority's area and inhabitants. It has six scheduled meetings each year. The overview and scrutiny process is open to involvement by local people, and the Committee encourages their participation. If you would like to speak on a subject please call Committee Services on 01462 474353 no later than noon on the day of the meeting.
The next meeting of the Committee will take place on Monday 9 October at 7.30pm in the lower hall at the Icknield Centre, Icknield Way, Letchworth Garden City, SG6 1EF.
This is a special meeting to consider the Council’s new waste and street cleansing contract. Much of the material will be confidential and the public will be unable to attend this part of the meeting.
As well as its scheduled meetings, the Committee establishes a number of task and finish groups each year to look at topics in more depth. Once a review is complete, a report is prepared which is approved by the Committee and is then sent to the Cabinet or other public sector partners for consideration.
The report of the Task and Finish Group on the Council’s Management of Larger Projects was considered by Cabinet on 26 September. Cabinet supported its recommendations albeit with some changes to the wording of some recommendations.
The Committee has decided to hold a workshop to examine the value of scrutiny to the Council. The task and finish group programme has been put on hold until after the workshop has taken place.
When the programme resumes, the next task and finish group will look at consultation.
