Affordable Housing

Affordable housing refers to mostly rented properties, let at low social or affordable rents on a secure basis to those who are most in need. To apply for affordable rented housing, you will need to apply to join the Common Housing Register.

Affordable housing in North Hertfordshire is provided by Private Registered Providers (housing associations), which are independent, not-for-profit social landlords.

There are currently 28 Registered Providers managing around 11,000 properties across the district. They provide homes for single people and families, as well as housing for older people and those with special support needs. The largest housing association is settle (formerly known as North Hertfordshire Homes), who took over ownership of the Council’s housing stock in March 2003.

Registered providers are regulated by the Regulator of Social Housing and funded through Homes England.
