Pay for Parking with PaybyPhone

No cash for parking? North Hertfordshire motorists can pay by phone using PaybyPhone.

Users of NHDC-operated car parks are able to pay for their parking by phone, using their debit or credit card.

The PaybyPhone cashless payment system in Council pay and display locations allows drivers to pay by mobile phone. It replaces the earlier RingGo service.

The advantages are:

  • You can extend your stay without returning to the car park (subject to maximum stay limits) 
  • More secure, not advertising how long you will be staying 
  • No lost or blown away pay and display tickets 
  • Once registered you can use this service in many locations countrywide 
  • Reduce the risk of receiving a Penalty Charge Notice 
  • It is convenient and quick

How it works - parking

PayByPhone is the most convenient way to pay for parking. It’s easy, either use the app, do it online or call. Get helpful tips on using each method below.

Use the app

Download the app now:

  1. Download the PayByPhone app
    Download the app now from the Google Play or iOS App Store.
  2. Enter your location code
    Enter the location code you wish to park in as advertised on street signage.
  3. Enter your parking duration
    Add the time duration you wish to park for. Check the details then confirm your selection.
  4. Extend your parking anytime*
    Add more time from wherever you are. Simply open the app and add time to your current parking meter.


  1. Visit the PayByPhone website
    Login to your account at
    To begin, select Register or Log in from the main menu.
  2. Enter your parking requirements
    Enter the LOCATION number (see on-street signage) and the DURATION you wish to park for.
  3. Enter your security code
    Finalise your transaction by entering the 3 digit security code on the back of your payment card.
  4. Manage your account online
    Visit your account page to quickly add or amend vehicle details, update your payment info or security settings.


  1. Call the number posted on signage
    Dial the PayByPhone service number displayed on parking meters and signs.
  2. Respond to the prompts
    Existing users will be prompted to enter the 4 or 5 digit location number, and parking time required. New users will be guided through a registration process.
  3. Wait for your parking to be confirmed
    Once you have had confirmation you may leave your vehicle. Parking details will be sent to the handheld units the Parking Enforcement Officers patrol with.
  4. Extend your parking anytime*
    Extend your parking at any time. Simply call the number you dialled in Step 1. Your account will be recognised and you will be given the option to extend your parking session or to start a new one.


  1. Send text to confirm location and duration
    Simply send a text message to 65565 with your LOCATION (see on-street signage), the DURATION to park for, and the 3 digit security code (CVV2) on the back of your payment card to park the last used vehicle on your account
    ​Duration format for SMS messages:​
    1m = 1 minute
    1h = 1 hour
    1d = 24 hours
  2. Wait for your parking space to be confirmed
    You will receive a text back confirming your parking has started, please do not leave your vehicle until you have received this confirmation message.
  3. Extend your parking anytime*
    You can extend your parking session at any time by sending a message with just 'DURATION CVV2'.
  4. Stop your parking session
    If you make a mistake you can stop a parking session within the first 5 minutes of it starting by simply sending a message with the word 'STOP'.
    In some locations 'STOP' can be used any time prior to the end of your parking.

To park a different vehicle already on your account add the required number plate after the CVV2 e.g. 12345 1h 111 TEST123

*Please note that the ability to extend parking depends on local parking restrictions and regulations.
