North Hertfordshire's beautiful countryside is well worth a visit and there are a number of walks and cycle routes available to help you explore the district.
There are a variety of walking routes which cater for all abilities. The routes can be found on the Countryside Management Service (CMS) website.
Archaeological walks in North Hertfordshire - the Archaeology Officer is available to conduct guided walks through parts of the district for parties of up to fifteen people. Each walk is designed to last between an hour and a half and an afternoon. For adults, all walks will include a refreshment break at a pleasant public house, while for children, other types of refreshment can be arranged. Dates of upcoming walks will be advertised on the website.

Hitchin Outer Orbital Path (HOOP)
The HOOP allows you to explore the history of Hitchin and surrounding villages.
Great Ashby Woodland Walk
This Woodland Walk leads you around the Great Ashby Estate, taking in five woodlands managed by NHDC. Four of the woodlands have their own short route for you to explore. Look out for the map boards at the entrances to Brooches Wood, Claypit Hill’s Spring and Serpentine Woods to find out more.
The Hicca Way
The Hicca Way follows the River Hiz Valley. Please see the guide below for three different routes.
