Change to bin collection dates over Easter 2019

A reminder that bin collections in North Herts will change over the Easter break due to the bank holidays. Bins will also be collected one day later following the two May bank holidays.

With days to go until the deadline for registering to vote, the full list of candidates standing for election in North Hertfordshire has now been published.

Residents can now find out who they can vote for in their area, by ward, ahead of polling day on Thursday 2 May.

16 seats across 16 council wards in North Hertfordshire are up for election and residents can vote for any candidate(s) standing in their ward.

Horses lend a helping hoof at Brandles School in Baldock

It was smiles all round today, 2 April, as pupils from Brandles School, Baldock celebrated the completion of their Pupil Equine Training Scheme (PETS) course.

The course which includes learning how to look after and care for horses and hands on management of stables, enables pupils from the school to forge close working relationships with the horses to help improve their own mental and physical wellbeing.

Deadline approaching to register to vote in May elections

North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) is urging residents to make sure they are registered before the deadline of 12 April should they intend voting in the upcoming district and parish elections, which are taking place on Thursday 2 May 2019.

Local elections are an opportunity for residents to elect their councillors. 16 of NHDC’s 49 Council seats are up for election this year. The list of candidates will be published on 4 April 2019.

NHDC’s Multi-Storey Car Parks to close early due to anti-social behaviour

The Lairage Multi-Storey Car Park in Hitchin and the Garden Square Multi-Storey Car Park in Letchworth will close early as a result of complaints from local residents and car park users with regards to recent anti-social activity.

The opening times have been reviewed and as of Monday 25 March the Lairage will close at 19.00 and the Garden Square Car Park will close at 20.00, until further notice.

NHDC awards grant to Royston’s University of the Third Age

North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC) Royston & District Committee awarded £850 to the Royston University of the Third Age (U3A) at its meeting last week (13 March)*.

The registered charity currently provides people who are semi retired or retired with educational, creative and leisure opportunities, in a friendly environment. 

Vandalism again closes toilets at Howard Park in Letchworth

Public toilets at Howard Park and Gardens in Letchworth have been closed for the second time in two months following further vandalism at the site.

The toilets, which are owned and managed by North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC), had the toilet seats forcibly removed and discarded on the floor. The nearby kiosk was also defaced with offensive graffiti.

Officers from NHDC are working closely with the police to track down the perpetrators. The toilets have now been closed until further notice.

Home-Start Hertfordshire receives grants to support vulnerable families in North Herts

A registered charity that provides home based parenting support to disadvantaged and vulnerable families in North Hertfordshire has been awarded grants of over £9,000.

Home-Start Hertfordshire in North Herts was awarded the grants by North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC) Baldock and District, Hitchin, Letchworth and Southern Rural Area Committees* earlier this month, subject to completion of the necessary formalities.
