Witness appeal after act of mindless vandalism in Howard Park, Letchworth

The Kiosk at Howard Park in Letchworth was damaged on Thursday 8 November when a bin next to the kiosk and the shutter of the kiosk itself were set fire to. A number of empty cans and bottles were found near the scene.

Regeneration of Churchgate Shopping Centre: Report to go to Full Council 22 November

An update on the proposals to regenerate Hitchin’s Churchgate shopping centre and rejuvenate Hitchin’s market will be presented to a meeting of NHDC’s Full Council on 22 November.

The report is also being considered by Cabinet, in advance of a decision being made by Full Council on 22 November as to whether to move forward with the next phase of detailed work, before a final decision on whether to proceed is made at a later date.

North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) and its waste contractor, Urbaser, have long accepted that many residents have not received a satisfactory level of service since the new waste and recycling contract came into force in May. Both parties have been working extremely hard to remedy the faults.

E-newsletter launches to help North Herts residents keep up to date

North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) has launched a brand new e-newsletter service, allowing residents to get the latest updates sent to them by email.

The new service allows anyone to sign up to receive a regular briefing called @NorthHerts which is a round up of all the latest news and information from NHDC. Subscribers can also select to receive updates on additional topics such as events, job vacancies, recycling, North Hertfordshire Museum, Active North Herts, and parks and countryside.

NHDC donates office furniture to Medical Detection Dogs charity

North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) has donated office furniture, including desks and bookcases, to the Medical Detection Dogs charity. The furniture was left over from the Council’s move back to the District Council Offices earlier this year.

Based near Milton Keynes, the charity is at the forefront of research into the fight against cancer and helping people with life-threatening diseases by training dogs to detect the odour of human disease.

Vehicle stop check operation highlights fly-tipping problem in North Herts

North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) joined forces with Herts Police and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) on 26 October, to carry out a ‘stop check’ operation aimed at preventing fly-tipping.

The ‘Where’s your waste going?’ stop check took place on Newnham Way, the road that links Ashwell and Newnham in North Hertfordshire. A total of 14 vehicles, either commercial vans or private vehicles with a trailer, were stopped and checked over a 2 ½ hour period.

Spooktacular afternoon of fun for many at Howard Park, Letchworth

Over 600 people turned out at Letchworth Garden City’s Howard Park and Gardens for Spooky Sunday last weekend.

The frighteningly fun event, presented by the Friends of Howard Park and Gardens with support from North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC), hosted a number of family friendly activities including making Halloween bats, magical wands, mystical broomsticks, spooky spiders and terrifying twig webs.
