Act now to avoid Hertfordshire moving to high risk status

Hertfordshire’s Local Resilience Forum (LRF) is calling on the whole community to act now and ‘Play your Part’ to slow the rapid spread of coronavirus in our county.

Hertfordshire, as a whole, has been placed as a medium-risk area in the Government’s new system of local COVID-19 alert levels.

Support payments for Covid-19 self-isolating workers

Residents in North Herts in receipt of certain qualifying benefits who cannot work after being told to self-isolate, can apply from 12 October for a new Government support fund to be administered by North Herts District Council (NHDC).

In response to a rise in Covid-19 numbers across the country, the government has made it compulsory for people to self-isolate if the NHS has told them, either because they have tested positive for Covid-19 or because they have been in close contact with someone who has.

Women and young girls across North Herts who are experiencing ‘period poverty’ have been given a boost thanks to the efforts of North Herts District Council’s Healthy Hub and Morrisons supermarket

Period Poverty is a very real issue in the UK with 1 in 10 women and girls unable to afford to buy essential menstrual products. With more and more people facing significant financial pressures as a result of the pandemic, cases of women and girls being unable to provide for themselves have risen sharply.

NHDC’s Hitchin Committee awards grants to after school clubs

Two Hitchin after school clubs recently received grant funding totalling £1,900 at a virtual meeting of North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC) Hitchin Area Committee on 29 September*.

Hitchin Fun Club, an afterschool and holiday club based at Highbury Infant School, received a grant of £900. The club provides a safe, caring environment for children to play, explore, learn and engage in a variety of activities to further their development.

North Hertfordshire Museum closed due to water leak [update: reopening Friday]

Update 4.45pm: we're pleased to confirm that the Museum will reopen again on Friday 2 October. The main seating area of the café will be out of use on Friday as a precaution. Alternative seating will be available in the foyer.


Unfortunately due to a water leak into the Museum café overnight, North Hertfordshire Museum is currently closed. We are currently on site to assess the level of damage caused.

Where’s Wally? Spooky Museum Search – find Wally in the North Hertfordshire Museum!

This Halloween, Wally, the world’s favourite children’s book character – wearing a red-and-white striped shirt and black-rimmed specs – will be travelling the country, appearing in museums, including the North Hertfordshire Museum in Hitchin.

Families will be able to join the search for Wally at the North Hertfordshire Museum as part of the Where’s Wally? Spooky Museum Search, organised by Walker Books and Kids in Museums, to celebrate the release of the new book, Where’s Wally? Spooky Spotlight Search.
