More business support grants on the way

We understand this is a very difficult time for businesses, particularly following restrictions and temporary closures during Tiers 2, 3 and 4, and now the national lockdown.

We are currently working hard to set up an efficient, simplified grant payments system to get much needed financial support to businesses that are eligible, as quickly as possible.

Chief nurse among those leading ‘stay at home’ plea

With one in three people carrying COVID-19 without showing any symptoms, and a new, more infectious strain of the virus in circulation, the need to observe the government guidance has never been greater.

The Council will close at 5pm on Wednesday 23 December for Christmas. Our services and phone lines will reopen at 9am on Monday 4 January 2021.

Special Ho Ho Hot meal deliveries for Letchworth’s sheltered housing residents this Christmas

Letchworth residents who will be on their own in sheltered housing schemes on Christmas Day, are set to receive a special festive meal with all the trimmings.

Thanks to a new project that has been match funded by Herts County Council, North Herts District Council’s (NHDC) Healthy Hub service in partnership with First Garden Cities Homes, are arranging delivery of a hot two course Christmas dinner and a small Christmas gift.*

Statement on Tier 3 restrictions being introduced across the whole of Hertfordshire

Matt Hancock, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, has today announced that from Saturday 19 December, the county of Hertfordshire will move into Tier 3 - Very High Alert restrictions.

Tier 3 will come into effect from 00:01 on 19 December across the entire county, which includes North Hertfordshire.

Hertfordshire has moved into Tier 3 to curtail the rapidly rising number of coronavirus cases in the county.

NHDC’s Southern Rural Committee awards grants to community groups

North Herts District Council (NHDC)’s Southern Rural committee has awarded grant funding totalling £2,350 to the FC Comets, Knebworth Football Club and Offley Primary School at its virtual meeting on 10 December*.

The FC Comets were awarded £800 to purchase a new set of metal goal posts to facilitate 5 a-side games of football. The goals will be used by 30-40 children each year and have a long life of at least 10 years.

NHDC Cabinet puts forward financial support package for sports centres

At its Cabinet Meeting on 15 December, North Herts District Council (NHDC) proposed a further package of financial support to help maintain sport and leisure provision at the North Herts Leisure Centre, Archers Gym in Hitchin, Hitchin Swim Centre and the Royston Leisure Centre. The measures will be voted on by Full Council on 21 January 2021.

Historic photography exhibition launches at North Hertfordshire Museum

North Hertfordshire Museum’s new photography exhibition offers a glimpse into the lives of North Herts residents from bygone times.

Frozen In Time – Early Photographs of North Herts features a series of 48 photographs of North Herts in Victorian and Edwardian times from the museum’s collections. The fascinating images of towns and villages in the district offer a snapshot into the daily lives of people who lived and worked there during those eras.
