Council grants helping local clubs stay safe and social

Following recommendations from the recent Baldock Community Forum, two local clubs are set to benefit from grant funding from North Herts Council, helping them maintain safe facilities and continue providing valued community services.

Avenue Park Sports Club (APSC) has been awarded £1,020 to resolve a plumbing issue in the gents’ toilets, which posed a health and safety concern. The toilets, used by over 110 members and visiting teams, will be re-plumbed to meet current standards. The Club’s new management committee is keen to improve the facilities and explore ways to enhance sustainability.

John Graham, Chair of APSC, said that this funding was essential to improve the facilities in the building and to allow the Club to grow, in this reformation year. John said: “We are very grateful to the Council for helping to organise this for us. APSC is open for all Sports Clubs and Organisation to join and use these facilities. All welcome.”

The Weston Luncheon Club will receive £500 towards the hire cost of the Village Hall, ensuring the weekly Luncheon Club can continue. The Club provides a cooked meal and a social space for local residents, helping to combat social isolation. Run entirely by volunteers, the club receives support from Weston Parish Council and small contributions from attendees to cover ingredient costs.

Cllr Daniel Allen, Leader of North Herts Council and Executive Member for Governance, said: "These grants make a real difference to our local clubs and community groups. Whether it’s fixing essential facilities or keeping people connected over a meal, supporting these organisations helps our communities thrive."

Both grants demonstrate North Herts Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting local organisations that provide safe, welcoming, and valuable services to the community.
